About BWSC

Founded in 1959, the Blue Water Sailing Club pursues safe boating, cruising, racing, and fellowship among sailors year-round. Our members live – and sail -- in the Northeast as well as in the Chesapeake Bay and Florida. We have no clubhouse or dock but offer a wealth of opportunities -- on water and on land. Volunteerism is the lifeblood of Blue Water; all Events and Activities are run by its 300+ members.

Our members organize several weekend Events and Activities each year beginning with Memorial Day and ending with Columbus Day. Multiple week-long Cruises are planned for Maine, the Maritimes, Long Island Sound, Buzzard Bay, and more. In addition to sailing, “happy hour”, dinners, and local tours, we also organize informal races during these events.

Blue Water strives to educate and prepare our members for offshore sailing and racing. BWSC is one of the three hosting clubs that run the biennial Marion to Bermuda Race.  Part of the preparation for the Race is the biennial Safety at Sea Symposium which BWSC organizes prior to the Marion-Bermuda Race (start date June 19, 2015) and Marblehead to Halifax Race (start date July 5, 2015).  In past years, Club members have participated in both races -- and been awarded trophies,

Blue Water offers several social events and activities on land which include a Ski Weekend, "Pub Nights", and a Spring Dinner. There is an Annual Meeting and Luncheon in early November. The KidSail initiative offers age appropriate activities geared toward families with younger children and planned in conjunction with on water events and activities.

During the winter, we organize and sponsor a Seminar Series many of which are led by our members. Examples of past seminars include: Anchoring, Art & Science of Sailing, Celestial Navigation, Cruising & Voyaging, Cruising Newfoundland & Maritimes, Diesel Care, Galley Tips, Maritime History, Medical Emergencies at Sea, On-Board Electronics, Preparing for Offshore Racing, Racing Trim & Tactics,First Aid/CPR & AED Training, Splicing, Weather, and What’s New in Rigging.  Guests are especially welcome to our Seminars, which offer an opportunity to meet members of the Blue Water Sailing Club community.
