About this event
Come ski New Hampshire at Loon and Cannon Mountains with Barry and Susan Bershad as your hosts .
Hopefully we picked a good time.
Martin Luther King day is Monday January 20. While both may be crowded on that Monday with tickets and lodging hard to come by, they should be fully open and a pleasure subsequently.
Figure we’ll ski at Cannon on Tuesday and Loon on Wednesday with Thursday up for a vote.
We have a couple of options for a group dinner either at the Great Room at our condo complex or at the Old Colony Ski club in North Woodstock where Sue and I are members.
There are lots of hotels and Airbnb’s in the area and I would think most people up for the weekend will have checked out Monday morning.
For those looking for a bargain in accommodations you can stay at our club https://oldcolonyskiclub.com/ for $25 a night for bunks, pricing not yet available for coed room.
Old Colony Ski Club is completely refurbishing their kitchen as we speak and it will be ready for ski season. It is a 21+ ski club. Rooms sleep 4-6 to a room, bunk beds.
Need to bring your own bedding for twin size mattresses and towels.
It's on a hill. If you enter on the low side there is a large bar area (BYO) with super fireplace, dining area and very large kitchen (almost industrial).
A traditional pot luck will be in this space at least one of the nights. Even for people who don't stay at the Ski Club.
There's a 1/2 bath on the lower floor.
Upstairs is a living room and women's floor with shared bathrooms, with two or three stalls, with a couple showers.
Upstairs from the living room is the larger men's floor with their shared bath.
The women's showers are more private with double doors, with a dressing area between.
The men's have shower curtains which then open up to their shared bath.
Besides cleaning up after oneself, everyone is expected to do a chore. Typically 10-15 minutes.
Difficult chores such as restocking firewood are shared by a few people.
With a lot of people one's "chore" might be cooking or cleaning up after a group dinner.
Normally maxes out at 6 guests BUT as a past president I know everyone and have worked that out.
If people like the club they can join on their own for $25 per year. They then will be free to reserve on their own, bringing up their own guests without a sponsor.
Check it out with a virtual tour in this link. (The shuttles mentioned in the video are only when the club becomes a hostel during the hiking season). https://oldcolonyskiclub.com/about-us/lodge-tour/
It’s been known that some area ski clubs ask the new people to sing but not at Old Colony.
