Tales of the Sea talk by Cindy Elder

About this event

5pm dinner at Portsmouth Publick House, Portsmouth RI,

followed by attending the 6:30pm talk at the Portsmouth Public Library, 2658 E Main Rd, Portsmouth RI, a short distance away.

The Journey Beginsby local author Cynthia Elder is an historical novel set in West Barnstable in 1830 and carries through the Great Age of Sail and the Civil War years.

Seen through the eyes of lighthouse keeper Joseph Nickerson and members of the Jenkins and Fish families whose livelihoods are tied to the sea, the story follows young James Jenkins as he travels the world as a sailor.
Separated for years from his family, James binds himself to them through letters that span the vastness of oceans and time.
The characters’ words are captured from ship’s logs, letters, and personal journals and form the basis of the fascinating glimpse of the seafaring lives of the families.

Author Cynthia Elder will discuss her research and her writing process.  Books will be available for purchase and signing.

This program is free and open to the public.  No reservations are required.
