I would like some help from those who register for this cruise, crew or from the BWSC membership at large to propose a design for a hat and shirt and perhaps a coffee mug to commemorate and promote the cruise - items which registrants will receive prior to departure. We can pick from what is proposed and then you or I or we can execute. This might either be Club subsidized, self funded or a blend.
This cruise is a big deal for the Club and for those who do it - big in scale as to distance, time, place and challenge. Big in scale as to the number of boats moving in one group that far north. Big in scale as to the number of harbors visited in both Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. No other outfit - not the Salty Dawgs, not the ARC and not previously the BWSC - have done this trip this way. The trip merits a little apparel!
I have done crew hats and shirts for some of my longer offshore passages. Those who have sailed these trips tend to hang on to this stuff until they become cherished rags. Rags that have been hard earned. Not just any t-shirt you pick up in a store or off the rack at a race event as a spectator.
Some examples of a hat and shirt from the Points East Fundy Flotilla and the back of a shirt from one of Hank Schmitt's rallies to the Carribean are attached as examples of what I have in mind.
In my view, the individual boat name, the club name, our burgee, maybe our motto, a name for this cruise and perhaps the year(s) should appear somewhere on the apparel. The lower the profile, the more tasteful.
As to naming the cruise, only "Atlantic Canada" vs. "Canadian Maritimes" captures Newfoundland. I remain an open-minded student of what gets proposed.
Any help with this is appreciated. Should be fun. Help = skin in the game for the registrants and for the Club.
