Lithium Batteries – A pragmatic approach

About this event
Lithium batteries for boats is a hot topic today and like most of us, we started investigating their use on Mystic Rose.
Our first inclination was simply to replace our AGM’s with drop-in LFP replacements but I soon discovered that was not as easy as it sounds.
That’s when I realized I had to learn about BMS’s, surge loads, alternator charging, failsafe systems and a whole lot more.
Rod Collins at MarineHowTo.com, John Harries at Attainable Adventure Cruising on MorgansCloud.com and Bruce Schwabb at OceanPlanetEnergy.com all became my go to websites.
Our eventual pragmatic solution was to ditch our 20+ year old unreliable diesel generator which was at the end of its fateful life anyway, and use the space to install a large LiFePo4 battery bank that would supply all our 110v AC needs along with charging our existing AGM’s.
Attend this webinar to learn how we arrived at this solution and the benefits of this approach.

Bernie and Lynn have been racing and cruising sailors for over 40 years.
They began racing together in Ontario on a Laser II trapeze dinghy and then a Laser 28 sailboat that they both raced and cruised in Ottawa and trailered to many ports including Montreal, Kingston, Quebec City, Chicago and Annapolis.
After moving to Boston in 2000 they owned Amigo VI a J/42 and loved East coast (including a couple of Canadian provinces) cruising and Bernie raced offshore to Halifax and Bermuda several times.
In 2012 they upgraded to their dream boat Mystic Rose a J/46 performance cruiser.
Bernie and Lynn have always done most of the maintenance on their boats themselves and that is still true today.
In the off season, Bernie and Lynn race a Harbor 20 in Port Charlotte Harbor, FL.

IMPORTANT ZOOM MEETING INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Please register as registration allows a streamlined meeting start-up.
2. It is strongly recommended that you install the Zoom application on your desktop or mobile device. During the install, please set your screen display name to the name you used to register for this event.
3. As a point of courtesy to other club members, please think of your screen name as the same as your BWSC badge. It’s much more friendly talking to Joe Smith instead of “Joe’s iPad”. The meeting host may gently remind you by saying “I see that Ken just joined the meeting – can you identify yourself?”
4. We recommend visiting zoom.us/test in your browser before the meeting. You can see how you look on camera, if your background looks ok, adjust your lighting, and check if your zoom client is up-to-date.
