"Hi-Neighbor! Have a 'Gansett!" (Bay, not Beer in our case!). Welcome to the 2024 Southern Cruise!. Unlike Roger Williams, you don't have to be banished from Massachusetts to discover the Narragansett Bay. The tentative itinerary of the 2024 Southern Cruise includes a leisurely circumnavigation of the Bay, with plenty of shoreside activities. Upon leaving Narragansett Bay, we'll head to Buzzards Bay to enjoy a few ports before meeting the Maine Train. Here's what we are thinking so far:
Sunday-Mon July 14-15: Dutch Harbor, Conanicut Island
o Gather, welcome boats as they arrive, cocktails/mocktails aboard PAX on Sunday at 5pm, Welcome potluck dinner aboard PAX on Monday night.
o Anchor or make mooring reservation at TPG Dutch Harbor Boat Yard on Dockwa ASAP.
Tues July 16: East Greenwich (14 miles)
o Options: East Greenwich walking tour, golf, horseback tour, kayak,
Goddard Memorial State Park, Wireless and Steam Museum.
o Anchor off Goddard Park or make mooring reservations at Prime Marina or
East Greenwich Yacht Club on Dockwa ASAP.
Wed July 17: Potter Cove, Prudence Island (11 miles)
o Cruise around the island, hike/bike the Island, potluck dinner.
o Anchor
Thurs July 18: Battleship Cove, Fall River, MA (10 miles)
o Battleship Museum.
o Make mooring reservation for Battleship Cove moorings on Dockwa ASAP.
Fri-Sat July 19-20: Bristol, RI (11 miles)
o Herreshoff Museum, Colt State Park, dinner at the SS Dion restaurant on the 19th, progressive cocktail/mocktail party and boat tours on the 20th.
o Anchor or make mooring reservation at Bristol Yacht Club on Dockwa ASAP.
Sun-Tue July 21-23: Newport, RI (14 miles)
o Provisioning for Maine Train, Cliff Walk, Mansion Tour,
group dinner at Newport Yacht Club one night.
o Anchor or make mooring reservation at Oldport Marine Services on Dockwa ASAP.
Wed-Thur July 24-25: Cuttyhunk (30 miles)
o Potluck dinner at Win and Martha Sanford’s Thursday.
o Moorings first come, first served.
Fri July 26: Red Brook Harbor (23 miles)
o For those joining the Maine Train
Sat July 27: Maine Train departs Red Brook Harbor
We request that BWSC members with local knowledge or YC membership help us identify and arrange excursions, dinners or other activities at each port.
